Using the fireproof Drainsafe weave is a very cost-efficient way to construct supplementary fireproof drainage systems in tunnels. The work method involves covering the drainage mats with fireproof weave instead of the conventional approach of covering them with rendering concrete. The Drainsafe method requires no maintenance and results in major savings when the BEST tasks are completed. It also eliminates the serious soiling that rendering concrete involves. Existing electrical and wire installations can remain in place, and the surrounding surfaces do not need to be covered. Drainsafe fireproof weave has been fire-tested by MPA in Germany. Supplementary tests tailored to the area of use were performed in November 2007 by Botniabanan AB in collaboration with Brandskyddslaget AB.
